Timelapse video in Edinburgh with the Panasonic GH5
A couple of weeks ago I was in Edinburgh shooting an advertising gantry being raised across the Gogar Bridge for 8point8 link to website
We drove up from South Yorkshire on the Saturday afternoon and were on site that evening from 7pm to 1am the following morning. I shoot video with the Panasonic GH5 and it is amazingly capable camera for stills as well as video. It really comes into its own though for timelapse.
With other cameras you take a series of photographs then you have to process them on a computer with specific software. The GH5 is different, once it has taken the several thousand photographs you have taken it asks you “would you like a video?” By clicking yes it does all the legwork for you and you end up with the timelapse video you will see and also all the raw images as well.
The GH5 handled the day to night transition beautifully and didn’t put a foot wrong all night. I am so impressed with the all round capability of this camera that I now use it in preference to my large professional Canon cameras.
This was photographed over several hours on a tripod in Aperture mode at F5 and ISO 500 with a shot every 10 seconds to give the final result.
