I was privileged to be asked to photograph the visit to Sheffield by the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh. In the past I have photographed celebrities and government ministers but this was the first Royal photography I’ve done so the pressure was on to do a good job.
I arrived early at the Town Hall and having had my bag searched and getting through security I proceeded to do lots of test shots in different areas to make sure the settings were right.
Just before Her Majesty arrived one of her staff threw a bit of curve ball by asking me not to use flash or not much flash. The Town Hall is not the brightest of venues so it was a case of quickly doing a few more test shots at a higher ISO and then alternating to get the right shots without being intrusive
