For several years Anne and I have been the “go to” photographers for Bluebell Wood Hospice and we are called upon for a wide variety of subject from presentations, to days out, to staff photos and a whole lot more. Occasionally though we are asked to go to the hospice to take photos of loved ones who are not going to be with us for much longer.
This week I’ve been asked to go to Bluebell Wood Hospice twice to do very similar shoots. Two sets of parents were told that their newborn baby had severe heart problems and had only a few days to live.
The reason I was asked to go there was to take photographs of the baby while it was still alive so that the families had lots of memories of their short time with their sons. We have done this sort of photography too many times over the years we have been the photographers for Bluebell Wood Hospice but strange as it may seem it is not doom and gloom and the time we spend with the parents and families is filled with love but obviously tinged with sadness at the impending departure of their newborn
Bluebell do a simply amazing job of helping the children in their care and also caring for the families too. If you want to donate to a charity you would be hard pushed to find a more worthwhile one.
This is what Anna from Bluebell said in an email
Hi Nick,
Just to say a massive thank you for today. The family have been saying how fantastic it was to have that opportunity for pictures and are really appreciative that you gave up your time etc. Also Bluebell are grateful so that we can give the families some special memories.
Thanks again,
Anna.
